Our Purpose
Our purpose is to strengthen communities by helping deployed servicemen and women and their families through difficult circumstances that many times accompany deployment. DSFF strives to lighten the burden of the troops and their families by providing: wellness weekends for spouses and children of deployed soldiers, educational materials and morale-lifting items to deployed troops, monetary help in times of crisis, and Christmas gift certificates for military families in need. Great list of support organizations.
The Department of Defense discourages the publishing of lists of the names of troops stationed overseas and has terminated the "Any Soldier" form of mailings. This is why we are unable to offer random names on deployed HeroBracelets. There are, however, two resources in this list that can help you with that if you are interested. Unless you know of someone overseas or know of someone who has a loved one overseas, it is difficult to know how you can help. ...

Just got a great note from Carolyn Schroder.
My husband is a Lt. currently serving in Iraq. I purchased HeroBracelets for all of the wives in his platoon who are here manning the fort.
We all wear our bracelets everyday and won't take them off till they are home in our arms ... thank you for what you do!

We were fortunate enough to meet CPL. Sullens. This story was in the local paper.
After eight years of enlistment, it wasn't until Andrew Sullens' seven-month stint in Iraq that he received a nickname from his Marine buddies.
They started calling the College Station resident "Tackleberry," a joking reference to the character who showed an overzealousness for firearms throughout the Police Academy movies in the 1980s.
The nickname stuck after Cpl. Sullens "” preparing for a two-day mission wi...

We've been very fortunate to get this ongoing series of messages and photos from Melody Pigg about her son Marshall, who is currently deployed in Iraq.
Marshall sent us cameras from Iraq! The poor people at Walgreens probably got tired of me hovering over them anxiously waiting to see these pictures. Here's a few of them for you to enjoy. One of them is of the sunset, two of them are of the very barren looking landscape, and the last one is of Marshall. It was so nice to see a picture of him....

I have attached a few photos of my son, Spc.Christopher Andrew Merville, who gave his life for freedom while patrolling with the U.S. Army on duty in Al Anbar Province, Iraq on 12 October 2004.
I like Chris' look in the uniform with the beret - quite jaunty. The second photo was taken while he was at Camp Casey, South Korea, before he deployed to Iraq. He was very inquisitive and loved to explore new places. This photo was taken while he was on a day hiking trip in the area. The third photo i...

I heard from Marshall today. He's doing very well. Despite the heat and constant stress of a hostile environment, he still has a good attitude and is confident that he made the right decision about joining the Marines. For security reasons, he's unable to discuss anything about what he's doing in the sandbox, so he likes to discuss what he wants to do when he returns to the states and when he gets out of the Marine Corps.
We bought Marshall a 1982 Chevy Silverado Pickup for Christmas when he ...

We'd like to thank Andy Kilgore for his nice note and photos.
My name is Andy Kilgore. I knew SGT Bradley J Harper (USMC) and attended the same church. Also, his father, Steve was a teacher in my school during my
middle school years.
I am grateful for my freedoms for which Brad died. I remember his sacrafice everyday. His memory will live on forever.
People always ask about my HeroBracelet and HeroTag and it gives me the opportunity to share Brad's story with other students at Miami Universit...
