Sgt. 1st Class Jason Omar Bradley Hickman
February 05, 1974 -- January 07, 2010
United States Army
Sgt. 1st Class Jason Omar Bradley Hickman, age 35, died Jan. 7th, 2010 at Forward Operating Base Salerno, Afghanistan, of wounds suffered earlier that day at Combat Outpost Bowri Tana, when enemy forces attacked his unit with an improvised explosive device and small arms fire. His unit had been serving in Afghanistan since early February, 2009 and was scheduled to return to Ft. Richardson, Alaska in February 2010.
Jason was born in Anchorage, Alaska when his father was serving in the U.S. Army and stationed at Ft. Richardson. He spent most of his life in Kingsport, Tennessee and was a 1992 graduate of Dobyns-Bennett High School. Jason joined the Army in April of 1999, served as an engineer at Ft. Bragg, North Carolina, in a recruiting battalion in Wisconsin, and in Iraq before joining the 4th Brigade Combat Team at Ft. Richardson. Jason was also stationed at Ft. Lewis, Washington, where he met and married his wife, Tiffany. Married for seven years, Jason and Tiffany have three precious sons, ages 6, 4, and 2. They loved being outdoors, camping, hiking, fishing and also enjoyed teaching their children about the wonders of nature.
When asked if he had anything else to share about his son, his father, voice cracking, said it best: "John 15:13. Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends."
Jason's Mother,
